What is your personal experience in the watershed and its trail network?
Douglas
Extensive. I’ve hiked most every trail in the area at least once and make almost weekly use of Waterline, Bandersnatch, Red Queen and Snark. I also do stewardship work for APRC in some of those areas. I am dismayed to see a number of unsanctioned spurs showing up. It would appear that some in the mountain biking community do see fit to respect our natural places and use the trails designed for them.

How do you see the role of outdoor recreation in our local economy and what specifically, if anything, would you propose the city do to foster it?
Douglas
The beauty that surrounds Ashland is extraordinary. I want all to partake of it often as I believe there is a primal instinct in humans that is fulfilled by experiencing and touching the wonders of nature regularly. It revives us all.

What is your position on expanding the mountain bike and hiking trail network on City land? If you support an increase in trails, how specifically would you work to accomplish this?
Douglas
I haven’t given it much thought. However, should the topic come up, my starting position would be that they need to be kept separate. Not allowing bikes on trails used by hikers strikes me as no different than not allowing bikes on city sidewalks used by pedestrians.
